Helper/personal assistant for outgoing physically disabled teenage lad, south Cumbria
Description
18 year old lad in South Cumbria (bus and train access) with cerebral palsy needs support to do everyday teenage things. He uses powered wheelchair and communication aid and is currently at 6th form doing "A" level (maths and physics). Enjoys going out and about, cinema, travel, music...not into sport. Also needs help with personal care (loo and bath) and with eating. Most helpers we have had over the years have been completely new to the role but it has worked well, esp with gap year students and older 6th formers, but also with slightly older (but young outlook) adults. Helpers only seem to leave when they are actually moving out of the area! Full training will be given so no prior experience is necessary, just the right outlook and a positive attitude to disability (no pity required!)
A driver with a clean license and preferably 2 years experience would be great, but it is not essential. A reasonable level of physical fitness is necessary and no ongoing back problems. Approx 10 - 12 hours per week, flexible but outside of college hours and may be more in holidays etc. £8.50 per hour min. If you would like to know more please email and we can send more detailed info and an application form.
Not agency work.
