Attractive antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany spar back 54" double bed.

A lovely Edwardian mahogany double bed. We date this bed to the very early 20th century.

The bed comes in five sections; the head and foot boards, the metal side rails, a sprung base and a mattress.

The head board and foot board sit on square section legs above later ball castors.

The head and foot board legs are joined by two metal cross rails, and the sprung base and mattress sit on top of these. The mattress is showing some minor marks from past use.

The head and foot boards are of the same basic design, with a central decoratively inlaid panel flanked either side by four horizontal spars. The central panels are inlaid with an attractive central design and with an outline of boxwood inlay.

The headboard has a height of 45.5" (116cm) and the footboard a height of 36.5" (93cm), both by 54" (137cm) wide. The mattress is 68" (173cm) long by 54" (137cm) wide.

This lovely Edwardian mahogany double bed remains in good solid condition with only very minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage, including some minor chips to the feet. There are a few very minor marks and some slight mellowing to the finish, and there is an old repair to the front right foot. The brackets for the rails have also been moved at some point in the past, and some filled holes are present.

This remains a very stylish and elegant Edwardian mahogany double bed which will continue to provide sweet repose for many years to come.
