Volunteers needed to support people in the community in Health and Social Care
Description
Leaving the house to socialise over a coffee, having a laugh and a blether with someone, relaxing at the botanics, going to a show at the festival or simply enjoying fresh air on a sunny day.
These are things we can often take for granted living in Edinburgh
What if you couldn’t enjoy this beautiful city without the help of a volunteer?
Can you spare a few hours of your time to support someone to do these types of things and other fun activities?
Our volunteers get as much out of the experience as the people and communities they help.
The service that we are recruiting volunteers for is a community based project where volunteers are matched with people who have physical disabilities. Conditions can range from having visual impairment, to recovering from strokes to M.S. and other neurological conditions. We are part of the Health and Social Care Department in The City Of Edinburgh Council
Having a physical disability without a lot of support can often lead to social isolation and loneliness.
Having poor social connections carries risks which is:
? equivalent to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day
? equivalent to being an alcoholic
? more harmful than not exercising
? twice as harmful as obesity
The time and day you volunteer can be flexible whether it be for a few hours once a week or even every fortnight. We have opportunities across different neighbourhoods of the city.
YOU can make a positive difference in someone’s life?
Here in Health and Social Care Department we specifically support vulnerable adults. By volunteering with us you could bring something special to the lives of our service users.
